I too feel that romances in DOS:2 are an afterthought. You get to know them on a much deeper level than the characters in DOS:2 (Or in Bioware games) There are hours of dialog for Triss and Yennefer. Ciri and Yen are new characters in the Witcher game series, and they successfully make you - the player care about them, pretty much as soon as you get to meet them. It's just in Witcher 3, you have an actual relationship with those characters, you as the player care for those characters, and this is a great achievement for CDPR. (Frankly, I didn't mind that DOS:2 didn't invest in an animation and instead had the narrator tell you what's going on.) I think best romance in games were done in Witcher 3. Dragon Age Morrigan was the best I think. KOTOR, Jade Empire, Dragon Age Origins, Mass Effect, DA: I all had above average romantic plot. I really dislike the direction where Bioware is going nowadays, but saying their romance is so bad that it's a benchmark in bad romances in games is simply not true. The romances were a kickstarter stretch goal and it shows, like Larian included it because they had to. The ending slide then says that he then dissapears into the forest, never to be seen again. SPOILERS FOR END OF THE GAME: At the ending of the game, I got the spread source everywhere ending and Ifan talks to my character about how they're going to fight the remaining void forces together with my character. Top top it off, your romance choices have zero effect on the ending. It was really super awkward and uncomfortable. And then it's just the two of you staring at each other silently, fully clothed, while the narrator explicitly describes the sex scene. Like, I tried to romance Ifan, and throughout the game you get a couple flirty lines here and there, and then after Act 3, boom, you suddenly get the option of having sex. Is it just me, or does romance stuff in the game feel really tacked-on and half-assed?
